Our verdict

The M2 is NIIMBOT's best-selling printer: a compact Bluetooth thermal transfer label maker with 300 dpi resolution that prints labels 20–50 mm wide using a ribbon. Swap ribbons (seven colors, per NIIMBOT) and label stocks (white, matte silver, holographic, clear and more) for product-quality labels that NIIMBOT says last 8–10 years and resist water, oil, scratches and sun. It runs 4 hours on a 1.5-hour charge, connects to phones and PCs, and comes with a black ribbon and a roll of 50×30 mm labels for $99.99. It's rated 4.9/5 from 343 store reviews. Downsides: ribbons are an ongoing cost, it's limited to 2-inch labels (the M3 goes to 3 inches), and NIIMBOT's store has strict, buyer-pays returns and no stated warranty period.

Overview

The NIIMBOT M2 is the #1 best seller on NIIMBOT's store. It's a small, rechargeable thermal transfer label maker: instead of heat-sensitive paper, it uses a ribbon to print sharp, durable labels at 300 dpi. NIIMBOT markets it for many uses (product labels, jars, cables, office supplies, lab storage) and lists the same printer under several product pages.

This review is based on NIIMBOT's product pages, policies and store ratings as of October 2026. We haven't used the M2 ourselves.

Key features

Per NIIMBOT:

  • 300 dpi thermal transfer printing for crisp text, barcodes and QR codes.
  • Durable labels: waterproof, oil-, scratch-, heat-, cold- and sun-resistant; NIIMBOT claims 8–10 years.
  • Color: swap between 7 ribbon colors and many label finishes (white, matte black, matte silver, holographic, clear and more).
  • Label sizes: 20–50 mm wide, minimum height 9 mm, with automatic positioning.
  • Battery: 4 hours of continuous work after 1.5 hours of charging.
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth to phones (up to 3 iOS and 7 Android devices) and PC printing with a driver.
  • NIIMBOT app: 20+ fonts, 1,000+ icons, 100+ borders, templates, barcodes, QR codes and batch printing.

In the box: the M2, one black ribbon and one roll of 50×30 mm white labels.

Running costs

The M2 needs two consumables: NIIMBOT label rolls and ribbons. That makes each label cost more than on a direct-thermal printer like the B21 Pro, in exchange for durability and color. Bundles with two or three extra label rolls start at $111.99.

Ratings

The M2 shows 4.9/5 from 343 reviews on NIIMBOT's store, the most of any NIIMBOT printer. NIIMBOT's Trustpilot profile is weak (2.8/5 from 10 reviews), mostly about shipping and support rather than the printer; see our NIIMBOT review.

Price and returns

  • Price: $99.99 with a black ribbon and one roll of labels.
  • Shipping: NIIMBOT says 2–7 days for US orders on this model; free US shipping on the M2 and its labels at the time of writing.
  • Returns: 30 days, unused and in original packaging, at your cost. Orders can't be cancelled once placed.
  • Defects after use: within 30 days of arrival, returned at your expense for store credit. No warranty period is stated on the site.

Alternatives

  • NIIMBOT B21 Pro ($69.99): 300 dpi direct thermal, no ribbon, also prints photo labels. See M2 vs B21 Pro.
  • NIIMBOT M3 ($169.99): thermal transfer with wider 20–78 mm labels.
  • NIIMBOT B1 ($26.99): the cheapest way into NIIMBOT's ecosystem.

All five are compared in best NIIMBOT label makers.

The bottom line

The NIIMBOT M2 is a capable, well-reviewed thermal transfer label maker for $99.99: 300 dpi, durable labels and colored ribbons in a phone-friendly package. It's the one to get if your labels need to look professional and last. Factor in ribbon costs, the 2-inch width limit and the store's strict return rules. Our verdict: 7.6/10.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between thermal transfer and thermal printing?
Direct thermal printers like the NIIMBOT B1 or B21 Pro print with heat on special paper, so there's no ribbon but labels can fade with heat and sunlight. The M2 uses thermal transfer: heat melts ink from a ribbon onto the label, which makes labels more durable and lets you print in different colors by changing the ribbon.
Can the NIIMBOT M2 print in full color?
No. It prints in one color at a time, depending on the ribbon you load (NIIMBOT offers 7 colors), on labels of different finishes such as white, matte silver, holographic or clear.
How long do NIIMBOT M2 labels last?
NIIMBOT says M2 labels last 8–10 years and resist friction, low and high temperatures, light and sun. We haven't tested this ourselves.
Does the M2 work with a computer?
Yes. It works with the NIIMBOT app on iOS and Android over Bluetooth, and with a PC once you install NIIMBOT's driver.
What label sizes does the M2 support?
Widths from about 20 to 50 mm (0.8–2 inches), with a minimum height of 9 mm. For wider labels up to 78 mm, NIIMBOT sells the M3.
