How We Review Products

Exactly how WiseChoiceKR researches brands and products, how our scores and rankings work, what we don't do, and how we keep recommendations independent.

Last updated

We want you to know exactly what goes into every WiseChoiceKR article, including what we don't do. Here's our process.

1. What we cover

For each brand we cover, we usually publish four articles:

  • A brand review: the product range, prices, customer ratings, shipping, returns and warranty.
  • A single-product review of the brand's best seller.
  • A best-seller guide to the brand's most popular products.
  • A head-to-head comparison of two similar products.

2. How we research

Our reviews are research-based. Unless an article says otherwise, we have not tested the product ourselves. For each product we check:

  • Official specifications and documentation: manufacturer data, compatibility lists, box contents and manuals.
  • Store policies: shipping costs and times, return windows, who pays return shipping, and warranty terms.
  • Customer ratings: the ratings and review counts shown on the official store at the time of writing.
  • Consistency: when a brand's claims contradict each other, such as a weight in the marketing copy that doesn't match the spec table or two different return windows, we point it out.

We never invent test results, ratings or experiences.

3. Scores

Brand reviews and single-product reviews get an overall score out of 10. Each review shows the criteria behind it, such as features, value, customer ratings, shipping or returns and warranty. Scores reflect our editorial judgement based on the research above, not lab measurements.

Score Rating What it means
9.5–10 Outstanding Best in class with virtually no compromises
9.0–9.4 Excellent A top recommendation for most people
8.5–8.9 Very Good Strong choice with minor trade-offs
8.0–8.4 Good Worth considering for specific needs or budgets
7.0–7.9 Fair Notable compromises; better options usually exist
Below 7 Mixed We generally do not recommend it

4. Best-seller guides and comparisons

Our best-of guides usually list a brand's products in the order of that store's own best-seller list, and say so at the top. Where we can't fairly judge products against each other, for example skincare results or the fit of clothing, we don't give a score and compare the facts instead: specs, prices and customer ratings shown on the store.

"Best for" badges, such as Best Value, point out which product suits a specific need.

5. Editorial independence

  • Brands cannot pay for a review, a ranking or a badge.
  • Brands never review or approve our content before publication.
  • Most brands we cover run affiliate programs that we take part in. That never changes what we write: we publish the downsides, policy problems and inconsistencies we find.

6. Keeping it current

Prices, products and policies change. Every article shows the date it was last updated, and we update articles when we spot a change or a reader reports one. Always confirm the final price and policies on the retailer's website before you buy.
