Brightin Star

6.9/10 · Mixed
  • Cheap, fast manual primes for mirrorless cameras
  • Leica M shooters wanting a tiny 28mm pancake
  • Creative fisheye and ultra-wide shots on a budget

Our verdict

Brightin Star makes affordable manual-focus lenses for Sony E, Fuji X, Nikon Z, Canon RF, L-mount and M43 cameras, from a $69.99 fisheye to F0.95 and F1.4 primes for $189.99 and a 9.9 mm-thin Leica M pancake. The 2-year warranty is a plus. But read the fine print: the '90-day return' only covers defects and shipping mistakes (not change of mind), ordering the wrong mount costs a 40% restocking fee, orders with discount codes can't be returned, standard shipping takes 18–25 business days, and independent reviews are almost non-existent (2 Trustpilot reviews, both 1-star). Buy only if you're sure of your mount and happy with manual focus.

Ratings: very few independent reviews

  • On Brightin Star's store: most best sellers show 4.7–4.9/5, but usually from only 1–8 reviews. The 28mm pancake is the exception with 93.
  • On Trustpilot: just 2 reviews, both 1-star (TrustScore 2.9). One describes a lens arriving with dust, smears and possible scratches on the glass; the other a 30% cancellation fee and a return that cost more than $50 to ship.

Two reviews aren't enough to judge a brand, but there's also little independent evidence the other way.

Shipping

  • Processing: about 2–5 business days.
  • Standard: 18–25 business days, free over $55 ($7.99 below).
  • Priority: 15–18 business days, free over $55 ($15.95 below).
  • Express: 6–9 business days, $25.95–$29.95, free over $359.
  • Optional shipping insurance costs $2.99–$5.99 on orders over $55.
  • Brightin Star says it handles customs duties for US, UK and Canada orders; other countries pay their own.

Returns and warranty: read carefully

The "90-day return" is not a no-questions-asked return.

  • Full refund or exchange, shipping paid by Brightin Star: defective item, wrong model shipped, item mismatch or incomplete order, within 90 days of delivery.
  • You ordered the wrong model or mount: you pay return and replacement shipping plus a 40% restocking fee.
  • Not accepted: change of mind, misuse or accidents, orders placed with discount codes or gift cards, partial returns of bundles, and items whose serial number doesn't match.
  • Items must be unused, with all packaging and accessories. Get approval and an RMA number first.

Warranty: a 2-year limited warranty on manufacturing defects. Within 30 days, Brightin Star pays shipping both ways; from 30 days to 2 years you pay shipping to its warehouse and it pays the return.

Contact details: the store's contact page lists support and business emails on Gmail addresses rather than a company domain, plus a phone number with a +86 (mainland China) code.

Who should buy from Brightin Star?

A good fit if you:

  • Want a cheap, very fast manual prime (F0.95 or F1.4) and enjoy manual focusing.
  • Shoot Leica M and want a tiny 28mm pancake.
  • Want a $69.99 fisheye for fun.

Think twice if you:

  • Aren't sure which mount you need (a mistake costs 40%).
  • Might want to return the lens just because you don't like it.
  • Need your lens within a couple of weeks without paying for Express.

The bottom line

Brightin Star's lenses are cheap for what they promise, and the 2-year warranty helps. But the return policy is far stricter than "90-day returns" suggests, shipping is slow, and there's very little independent feedback. Double-check your mount, pay full price rather than using a discount code if you want return rights, and keep your expectations realistic.
